We're Not in Kansas Anymore--new podcast episode!
Comfortably Numb and the inspiring Dr. Allan Cole
Ever hear a song that immediately transports you somewhere else? Back on the Chain Gang by the Pretenders takes me to Gore Creek outside Vail, Colorado. Float On by Modest Mouse takes me to a Texadelphia sandwich shop in Houston, Texas. We all have those songs.
In this episode of the pod we head somewhere over the rainbow as we explore the transportive power of Pink Floyd’s Comfortably Numb. We explore what it’s like stepping into the world of an inpatient hospice house, which feels about as far from the chaos of the ER as you can possibly get.
We also get to hear from this guy:
Dr. Allan Cole is a professor, a writer, a poet, a bass player, and a university dean. He is also bravely outspoken about his diagnosis of young-onset Parkinson’s Disease (PD) seven years ago. Now he is constantly working to improve how patients live their best lives with PD.
Allan also rocks hard—two years ago he picked up a bass for the first time and has hardly set it down since. It’s a lot of fun and quite inspiring talking with Allan about life with a challenging illness, classic rock, and playing bass in a band.
You can find Allan’s books on amazon, his blog at PDWise.com, and info about his upcoming documentary The Only Day We Have here. But listen to the podcast first, and share it with you friends and colleagues!
