I had the great privilege of meeting Ron and his buddies a couple years ago during my palliative medicine fellowship. The way they handled an impossible situation together really blew my mind—I still think about them all the time! What a pleasure to now get to share their story with a little help from David Bowie’s “Starman” on this episode of My Medical Mixtape.
In the second half of this episode…what a joy it was to sit down with oncologist Bo Goodgame from Dell Medical School to talk about music and medicine and his approach to oncology. I think it’s fair to say that decades of facing cancer with thousands of patients imparts a lot of wisdom and perspective. This interview runs a little long…on purpose. Bo is bringing the goods the whole time. You won’t want to miss any of his insights or awesome music recommendations. He has an awesome “high lonesome” playlist—there’s a link in the episode description on Spotify. If you’re looking for a recording of his original song “Omicron,” you’ll have to ask him personally.
This may be the last episode of My Medical Mixtape for a while. So please enjoy it, share it with everyone you know, and let me know what you think!
